چکیده

BACKGROUND Scaling and root planing (SRP) is a conventional treatment for chronic periodontitis; however, it has limitations in treating deep pockets. To enhance its efficacy, chlorhexidine (CHX) proposed as adjunctive therapy with SRP due to broad antimicrobial spectrum, low systemic toxic activity humans, absence of oral microorganism resistance, lack teratogenic effects. This study aimed know the efficacy CHX.
METHODS A literature search was conducted using various databases including PubMed, LIVIVO, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Review Meta-Analyses guidelines within last 10 years (2011–2021). Clinical parameters such plaque index (PI), gingival (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded. The risk bias selected studies assessed Cochrane Collaboration’s Handbook version 5.2.0.
RESULTS Of 368 studies, met inclusion criteria, 8 them having higher quality. Higher reduction PI, GI, BI, PD, CAL observed CHX irrigation compared alone.
CONCLUSIONS Overall, adding appeared have additional benefits alone periodontitis.

Efficacy of Carisolv as an adjunctive therapy to scaling and root planing on subgingival calculus removal.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of subgingival application of Carisolv gel as an adjunctive therapy to scaling and root planing (SRP) on calculus removal compared to conventional instrumentation. Forty-five teeth requiring extraction due to severe periodontal disease were randomized to the following treatments: 1) SRP alone; 2) placebo gel + SRP; 3) Carisolv gel + SR...

Er:YAG laser versus scaling and root planing as alternative or adjuvant for chronic periodontitis treatment: a systematic review.

AIM To perform a systematic review to evaluate the erbium-doped: yttrium, aluminium and garnet (Er:YAG) laser versus scaling and root planing (SRP) as alternative or adjuvant for chronic periodontitis treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS We performed a literature search using six electronic databases and completed by manual searches up to July 2013. We conducted a meta-analysis as well as heteroge...

Adjunctive Role of Supra- and Subgingival irrigation in Periodontal therapy

The primary purpose of irrigation is to nonspecifically reduce the bacteria and their by-products that lead to the initiation or progression of periodontal diseases. Supragingival irrigation allows for the disruption and dilution of marginal bacteria and their by-products which helps to prevent or treat gingivitis. Subgingival irrigation interferes with the complex ecosystem required for the in...

The Effects of Diode Laser as an Adjunct to Scaling and Root Planing on Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis: A Review of the literature

Background and aim: The most common form of periodontitis is chronic periodontitis, which is a destructive inflammatory disease of periodontal tissues and is usually associated with pocket formation, changes in density and height of alveolar bone, and sometimes gingival recession. Some patients are resistant to periodontitis treatment due to a weak immune system, smoking, and sometimes due to u...
